As people with an interest in Northamptonshire and its local history / heritage discover Northampton Live the chances are that some, at least, will be looking for help or advice about a particular location or topic, so in the early days of this new forum why not encourage users to post their 'Help / Advice' requests / comments to one Forum, then sub-divide as they increase.
We will certainly give the site a plug in the news section of our own website at: www.local-history.co.uk and pass on details to 'Local History Magazine', to whom we provide a news service. From years of reviewing local history periodicals and receiving news items, the topics which seem to have caught the attention of active local historians during the last couple of years are World War 2 and workhouses, bearing in mind that historic photographs are always of interest. A few years ago, church histories were popular, but social and welfare history may well be of more interest these days. In Northants, you would be foolish to ignore Black History, given the contribution local historians in the county have made to bring the topic to the attention of the national media.
All I can say is keep up the good work. It's early days yet, but I'm sure your tenacity will be rewarded.
Finally, could anyone explain why the local history of public transport receives scant attention from local historians? What came first in expanding towns like Northampton and Kettering in the early 20th century - the trams, then the buses or was it the houses? In much of London, it was the railways and trams, followed by the developers. What happened in Northamptonshire?
My family lived in a flat 4a Welton Place ~1948/49. I understand that it was demolished in 1972, but I wondered if anyone could help me locate a photograph of it, and directions as to where it was located?

Hi Robert, many thanks for your posting. As you may now have seen I have taken your advice and removed all the other forums to concentrate on just one. This should simplify things until we get some heavy discussions going :)
We are always looking for photographs but copyright is always a challenge. In the near future we will be tracking down some old local photos and hoping to get agreement to show them here. In the meantime we have some contemprary photos that are waiting to be incorporated.
Finally your point about Black History, can you elaborate on this subject as sadly I am not aware of this. At least we know the forum is doing its job of educating people (namely myself).
