Purpose of the site

I am wondering if you could answer a small question i have about the site. I was having a look around and noted your requests for people to take ownership pages relating to towns / villages. I was interested in this initially as it mirrors a website i was involved with in Brighton called www.mybrightonandhove.org.uk and i thought i may volunteer to help out. I originally from Rushden and still have family there. I did a quick Google and found that Rushden has a history website: http://www.rdhs.org.uk/index.htm which contains all the kind of information you talk about wanting on your site. So my question is how does your site differ from what is already available?

Many thanks

A great question. There is one primary purpose of the site and a number of secondary, but probably more important ones.

Firstly, I had an interest in history and wanted to find out more, as I documented my findings (to help me remember them) I decided to put them somewhere where everyone could see them. It is a hobby I was happy to share.

One of the other reasons for the site was to enable people with a similar interest in their corner of the county to do the same. As you can see from the Weedon page, this has been very successful in certain areas. As you point out there are some places that already have a group or individual who is hard at work documenting history and we certainly don't want to replace that. Instead we will create a link to their site so people can find it. So the site is designed to be a hub to find history too.

If you wanted to research Rushdon yourself however, then by all means you can use this site to document your findings, you may have a different approach, view or find more information than the other sites.

At the end of the day, the more information around the better. If this site helps you find it, then great. The bottom line is to make the county's history available no matter where it lives. If it doesn't exist yet, then here is where it can be added by anyone that wants to.

Rambling response but hopefully it is useful. Thanks for the question.
