It is a little known fact that October the 25th is St Crispin's day and that he is the patron saint of Shoemaking. Traditionally shoe sellers would close for the celebration of their Saints day.

I do not think that the following statement from your web page on shoemaking in Northampton can be correct:
"the first machine based factory in Northampton was founded in 1838 by a 19 year old Moses Philip Manfield who originated from Bristol"
Philip Manfield would have been 19 in 1838 but I understand that he didn't move to Northampton until 1843 (http://www.northamptonunitarians.org.uk/story3.php).
The first machines for shoe production were introduced in Northampton in the 1850s
(http://www.bbc.co.uk/legacies/work/england/northants/article_2.shtml).
Perhaps you mean 1858 - but Philip would have been much older that 19 then.
